Oral History & Audio Projects
Oral history has many components. Below is a list of some of the elements of oral history and audio recording that I can perform or provide guidance for:
Post-interview production and preservation
Workshops & Training
I offer training and workshops for groups or individuals interested in learning more about oral history, both the methodology and the practice. I can also speak on digital archiving, community memory, and the value of mentorship.
I am available to consult on project design, project management, grant proposals, and other aspects of oral history or oral history-adjacent work.
"Ellen’s interviews speak for themselves. Her fieldwork is thorough and thoughtful, and her audio and transcript processing is precise and timely. I heartily recommend her services."
former Oral Historian at the Southern Foodways Alliance
"Ellen's exceptional ability to create a welcoming environment ensured that participants felt comfortable and were encouraged to share their experiences freely. Her expertise in the field of oral history easily expanded into community memory projects, and the projects were better for her advice in community engagement, project management, and ability to suss out narratives. Ellen's commitment to a team approach meshed well with our organizational values."
Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS)
"Ellen conducted an interview with my mom about her childhood in Chicago and was able to put her at ease and make the interview an enjoyable afternoon. Ellen’s menu of services was easy to understand and the finished interview was delivered quickly. I would highly recommend Ellen!"
